Our home

We have lived in this house for 9 years and Zorro is our first official pet. He showed up one day, 6 or 7 months ago, on our back deck and decided to stay! We are in our early 50s and would appreciate some assistance with making sure Zorro gets some attention, fresh water, and food while we are away.

We have a young couple living in our basement apartment that has offered to help feed Zorro but they work full-time and have pets of their own to care for. They have a separate entrance to their space so you will not see them unless you are in the driveway at the same time.

This is a split-level house with an empty guest room on the upper level. The room is furnished with a brand new queen bed (memory foam), dresser, futon chair, small fridge, and medium closet. You will have a small private bathroom with tub. Zorro pretty much goes into any room he wants to, and so far has not destroyed any furniture or carpet. He has a litter box but prefers to do his business outside. I've only had to clean his litter box around 5 or 6 times in the last 6 or 7 months. He'll use it if it's rainy outside.

We have a small workout room with a treadmill and free weights if you'd like to use that. Otherwise, this is a walkable neighborhood if you want to explore. You are welcome to use the kitchen and any cooking supplies, and you are absolutely welcome to use the washer/dryer. I can provide clean sheets, blankets, and pillows.

We have a fenced-in backyard that meets up with a man-made retention pond. The pond is home to Canadian geese and Muscovy ducks. Zorro does not mess with the ducks but he likes to watch them from a distance.

Other stuff: I moved to Georgia from Boston 10 years ago for work, bought this house, was financially healthy for a while, then I was laid off last year. I finally found a position, in another state, that pays enough to keep the house but not enough to compensate for me having to pay rent in another state. So to help with the additional bills we are currently looking for a permanent roommate but have not found the right person yet. My husband will be helping me get settled in Arizona for about 3-ish weeks and he then will be flying back to Georgia. During that transition period, we need some help with Zorro so he doesn't feel abandoned. Our neighbors are aware of what's happening and have offered to feed Zorro but I think we feel more comfortable if someone were inside the house to make sure he knows that this house is his safe space when he's not outside being a wild hunter beast!

favoriteWhat we love about our area

This is a mixed race and multi-generation, area: young kids to retired people. There is a golf course and park with a paved walking trail nearby. Lots of options for different types of ethnic foods. Pretty typical of suburban life around here.

Our pets

CatsCats (1)
Hello good cat people! We have a community cat that has decided to make our house his new home. He is a tuxedo cat named "Zorro". We are not sure how long he's been out roaming and according to the vet, he is between 2-5 years old. He is vaccinated, chipped and neutered. He's been with us for about 6 months now and we have finally noticed he is purring and playing and sleeping around us on his back. We installed 2 cat doors so he is 50/50 indoor/outdoor. He seems to be mostly active at night and prefers to be outside doing who knows what. We worry about his safety but try to allow him to keep his wild side alive. We provide fresh water and food for him. He likes to be brushed and he has his morning and evening zoomy-cat play times that seem to last for about 3 minutes, or so! Since we live in a neighborhood of fellow community cat lovers, we know he's been eating food left out by our neighbors, so...he's eating well, we just don't know what he's eating.

We use the Advantage flea application that seems to be working, so far.

Our garden

local_floristGarden or plant care

Minimal - I have a few house plants that need to be watered. Our neighbor will be borrowing the riding lawn mower in exchange for mowing our front yard so you don't need to worry about that.
