Our home

I'm off to visit friends and the Everglades. Twix would be an alligator snack, so will stay behind. I leave at 6AM on the 5th, so you would need to arrive at least by the 4th - earlier if you like. I return on the 14th around noon, so you could leave then, or stay over to the 15th. I'm flexible on when you arrive and leave, but that's the plan. I like a day to show you around and an extra day in case my flight is delayed.

Twix is a 10-year-old (going on 5) mini-Pinscher, and we live in lovely Avila Beach, a mile away from the golden sand, dog park, piers, restaurants, kayaking, lighthouse, and incredible whale watching (June-October). It is the closest beach to San Luis Obispo (6 miles) and is full of nature. I regularly see otters, dolphins, sea lions, and pelicans on the pier. The amazing whale watching trip - gray and humpback whales - is just off the Avila pier, about 20 minutes out to the whales. Avila is quiet, with the busier and more touristy beach town of Pismo Beach 4 miles south.

I need someone to be a pal to Twix for much of the day - he's happiest when he is with you. He loves to walk on the Bob Jones Trail or the paths within this 1,000-acre hilly, gated community, where you are likely to see deer, wild turkeys, and lots of birds since Avila is a bird sanctuary. He never tires out, even when I run him on the beach. One sitter took him for daily 6-mile walks, so he can keep up with you (I can't!).

If it is sunny, my deck plants might need extra water, but Twix is my main concern. There is a small yard off the bottom deck, where he can stay for a couple of hours while you are out, just not every day, please.

It is like being on vacation here, and the 3 BR house has all the amenities - 5G wifi, Netflix, laundry, and a newly remodeled kitchen. My RAV 4 hybrid is also available for your use if you are a licensed and careful driver. Restaurants are within walking distance, and my neighbors are friendly and will offer a helping hand. I keep a tidy, clean house (no smokers), and this gated community with a guard is very safe.

September temps historically average in the 75-78 range for highs and mid-50s low, with a 1% chance of rain.

I have had significant issues with single men in the past, so will only respond to women or married couples. (Yes, I know not all men are 'bad' - but I'm past the "3 Strikes" rule. I've got steep stairs, so no children please. I also require references and at least one online meeting to get to know each other.

The house is in a gated community with hiking trails, wildlife, and gorgeous coastal views. It feels like I'm on vacation every day with a sundeck that faces green hills. The Bob Jones trail winds along the San Luis Creek to the beach, and Avila Beach is a fun little village with great ice cream!

My pup Twix is an energetic 10 year old Miniature Pinscher. He will snuggle with you around the house, but loves daily walks around the neighborhood and a jaunt to the dog beach about a mile from our house. He is easy to care for - put some kibble in his bowl in the morning (he may or may not eat it) and feed him his main meal after your afternoon run on the beach (around 3 pm). Make sure he has fresh water and take him out to pee when you get up and before you go to bed. He is easy-peasy. All he wants is to be with you and is ready to go anywhere.

Minimal - Just a spray from the hose when the sun is hot so that they don't die. The indoor plants might need a little water once a week, but it's the outdoor ones that can wither in the sun.

Important info

I usually leave my car for sitters' use. I prefer that you don't leave Twix for long periods. I also have a brand new kitchen with new stone countertops, refrigerator, induction cooktop, and new pans. Special care must be taken not to scratch anything. No children, single men, or smokers.

This was a very pawesome opportunity to spend time and bond with both Deb and loveable Twix. Their home, routine, and presence were very welcoming and enjoyable. Debra house sitting was a real treat. Debra is such a great hostess, she took me on a tour for whale watching in the area. It was amazing. She cooked nice supper and shared a delicious local savory pizza. Her home is beautifully decorated with pieces from all over the world and surrounded by beautiful houses and lots of nature. I had lovely walks with Twix on the nature trails. Debra left her car for my use and all supermarkets, pharmacy and other stores where not more than 15 to 20 ... He takes directions well and has a pocket full of tricks for food, playtime and cuddles. I slept in the comfortable guest bedroom for my 3 week stay in their spacious and clean house. As we prepared for a sit with Twix, Debra's communication was great. She sent us a document with an abundance of information and regularly kept in touch. Disappointing to Debra, and us, but out of anyone's control, a hurricane in the Yucatan prevented her from going. Although we did not, Debra offered for us to still stay in her lovely home. Anyone would be lucky to not only care for Twix but Deb has a lovely home near a dog beach that Twix loves to go to.
Sweet, sweet Twix was such a wonderful little pup. He was always well behaved, full of fun energy and very affectionate. I really do miss him!
