favoriteWhy I love house sitting

When a homeowner hands you their keys, their pets, their home, everything they have worked for their whole entire lives, that is a privilege that I cherish. I love that when you come home, everything feels unchanged. You're returning to your life and it feels like you never left it. That's my wish!

Choosing a house sitter is about trust. You want someone who will care for your pets, respect your home, and notice the little things that matter while you're away. That's the kind of sitter I strive to be — and I'm proud to be a return sitter for two homeowners who have invited me back.

My goal is simple: when you return, your pets, your home, and your garden should feel every bit as cared for as when you left them — and maybe with a few thoughtful touches along the way.

Meet Miss Rita 🐾
Miss Rita, my sweet senior Beagle, is a wonderful little ambassador on every sit. Her calm, gentle nature helps other animals relax quickly, and many shy or nervous pets take their cue from her quiet confidence. She's respectful of other animals' space yet friendly and curious in the nicest way. Having Miss Rita along often helps new pets feel that everything is normal and safe — making transitions much smoother while their people are away.

Pet Care Experience
With over 20 years of experience rescuing Beagles — including senior Beagles since 2004 — I understand that every pet is unique. I've cared for everything from single-pet homes to busy multi-dog and multi-cat households, always taking the time to learn each animal's routine, personality, and individual needs.

Senior and special-needs animals hold a special place in my heart, but I enjoy caring for pets of all ages and personalities. I treat every pet with the same thoughtfulness and attention I give my own.

Medical capabilities: Administering medications (including insulin and subcutaneous fluids), have successfully performed Pet CPR and Heimlich Manoeuver on dogs.

I believe pets deserve more than the basics. During one winter house sit, heavy snow made it difficult for several dogs to enjoy their backyard, so I used the homeowner's snowblower to create winding paths where they could safely run and play. No one asked me to — it simply felt like the right thing to do.

Home & Garden Care
I keep things clean, organized, and well maintained. On one sit, the homeowner put her regular house cleaner on hiatus while I was there — because the cleaner reported she had nothing to do. The place was spotless.

I'm naturally observant and proactive — if something doesn't seem quite right, I'll either take care of it if appropriate or let you know promptly before it becomes a bigger concern.

Communication
Whether you prefer daily updates with photos or the occasional check-in, I'll keep you informed in whatever way makes you most comfortable — so you can truly relax while you're away.

I have completed three house and pet sits at this point and I really look forward to you speaking with all three. I've been honored with compliments such as trustworthy, calm, and genuinely caring — someone who treats homes and pets with respect and consistency, and who communicates clearly throughout the sit.

Reference #1 for Mia
March 2026
To Whom It May Concern,

I am delighted to recommend Mia Frederiksen as a house and pet sitter. Mia cared for my home and my two dogs for nearly four months while I was away, and I would trust her again without hesitation.

Because Mia was already travelling to Ottawa when we connected, we weren't able to meet beforehand. After speaking with several of her previous references, I felt confident welcoming her into my home. I'm very glad I did.

Throughout my time away, Mia took exceptional care of both my home and my dogs. She kept the house spotless and so well maintained that my regular housekeeper wasn't needed during my absence, which was an unexpected bonus. Knowing my home was in such capable hands gave me tremendous peace of mind.

Her care for my dogs was outstanding. Mia paid close attention to their health, routines, and overall wellbeing, and she kept me updated regularly with thoughtful communication. One gesture that particularly stood out was that she used my snowblower to create paths throughout the yard so the dogs could run, explore, and comfortably go outside during the winter. It perfectly reflects the extra care and consideration she gives to the animals she looks after.

Mia also travelled with her senior Beagle, Miss Rita, who settled in beautifully with my dogs. Her calm, gentle temperament made her a wonderful companion and she integrated seamlessly into our household.

Mia is reliable, conscientious, kind, and genuinely devoted to the animals in her care. She treats a home with great respect and communicates exceptionally well, making it easy to relax while you're away.

I have already invited Mia to return for another extended stay next December, which I believe says more than anything else I could write. I recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate house and pet sitter.

Please feel free to contact me if you require any additional information.

Sincerely,
Nancy

Reference #2 for Mia
I am delighted to provide this reference for Mia, who cared for my dogs and home for five months in 2025 in Columbia, TN. During that time, Mia proved to be an exceptional house and pet sitter—reliable, attentive, and genuinely devoted to the animals in her care.
From the moment she arrived, it was clear that Mia has a very special and natural connection with dogs. Animals seem to trust her instinctively, and my dogs bonded with her quickly. She has a calm, gentle presence that helps dogs feel safe and relaxed, and she takes the time to truly understand each dog’s personality, quirks, and needs. Mia noticed the little things—how each dog preferred to be approached, their favorite walking routes, their routines, and even their moods. It was obvious she wasn't simply “watching” them; she was building a relationship with them.
She spent real quality time with them every day—walking, playing, talking to them, and making sure they felt loved and secure while I was away. She even cooked for them and made them special treats. When I received updates and photos, I could clearly see how happy and comfortable my dogs were with her. That level of connection gave me tremendous peace of mind.
Mia also took wonderful care of my home. Everything was kept tidy, organized, and well maintained throughout her stay. She communicated regularly with updates and photos, which was incredibly reassuring while I was away.
Perhaps what stood out most was Mia’s kindness and integrity. She is warm, trustworthy, and deeply respectful of both the home she is staying in and the pets she is responsible for. Anyone who welcomes Mia into their home can expect the highest level of care, responsibility, and genuine love for their animals.
I would not hesitate to invite Mia back again and recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a truly outstanding house and pet sitter.
Warmly,
Lajuana

Reference #3 for Mia
I am very happy to recommend Mia as an outstanding cat sitter. Mia has cared for my two cats, Cheech and Chong, on six different occasions in Orleans, ON, and every time she has been absolutely wonderful.
Cheech and Chong can be particular about people, but they took to Mia right away. She has a calm, patient way with animals that makes them feel safe and comfortable. Mia took the time to get to know their personalities and routines, making sure they were not only well fed and cared for, but also given attention, affection, and playtime. It was clear that she genuinely enjoyed spending time with them, and they responded to that warmth.
Each time I traveled, I felt completely at ease knowing Mia was looking after them. She kept everything clean and organized, made sure their litter boxes and feeding areas were spotless, and often sent updates so I knew my boys were happy and doing well.
Mia is incredibly reliable, kind, and trustworthy. Sadly, both Cheech and Chong are now playing together at the Rainbow Bridge, Mia was very supportive of me during their illnesses and subsequent passings. Should I adopt any cats in the future, I would welcome her back to care for my cats anytime and recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking for someone who will treat their pets with true love and care.
Sincerely,
Sylvia
