favoriteWhy I love house sitting

I love to house sit because it gives me opportunites to explore new areas and get to know new people. Also I love to bless the home owners by having their home as nice or nicer than when I arrived. I would appreciate this if I had someone stay in my home.

My name is Joan Troyer (Joanie). I have been a widow since 2018, living in a 5th wheel beside my son's family. I will soon be moving in with a friend to help her.
I am ready to go to new places and meet new people, but also to return home to family. I have a son and daughter and four grandsons.

Friends and acquaintances tell me I am sweet, kind, wise, a good worker, caring, and a good listener. Some think I am adventurous because I look forward to traveling and do not mind traveling alone. I think of myself as a caring person who enjoys helping others and loves to listen to people tell their stories. I was a stay-at-home mother which gives me exceptional experience in many areas. I am skilled in cooking, cleaning, organizing, gardening, canning, hosting, and scheduling, etc. My prior travel experience with my husband, who was a pastor, includes 3 months teaching in Ethiopia, 2 months on the Hopi Indian Reservation preparing a mission school for the new year, and a week-long trip to Israel. In 2023 I traveled to Paris which got me excited about signing up for house-sitting so I can travel more, and others can get away and know their home is being cared for. Life-giving to me is helping others: canning with my daughter-in-law, helping my son and daughter, loving my four grandsons who are all taller than I am, being a part of our Women's Ministry Team at church which includes leading Bible studies, and I can't forget my love for holding tiny babies (we spent a few years fostering newborns).
I enjoy keeping a home nice. In my free time I enjoy playing board games, especially Canasta, Hand & Food, Sorry, Scrabble, and many others. I also enjoy reading, watching some TV, jigsaw puzzles, creating cards to send to others, walking...

We had Joanie housesit for us for just over 2 weeks in June of 2024. We knew that we were leaving our home in the best hands. Joanie treated our home as if it were her home (and she takes very good care of her home).
If we need a house sitter in the future, Joanie is definitely at the top of our list.

Pet care

I am currently watching a 12 year old little dog for a month. She is so precious. I have given her pills a topical medication.
My next house sit will also be for a small dog. Looking forward to this also.

I am sitting in Los Angeles now and will be sitting June through Sept in Illinois, so I won't be available until 2026.

We are so glad we found Joanie as our house/dogsitter while we went back to Australia for over 3 months. It was the longest we had ever been away from our 16-year old dog , so we were a bit nervous, but Joanie made it a priority to find out about Bonnie's needs and her (sometimes odd?!) ways. She gave Bonnie's medication and took her to the vet when she needed it, and was so attentive and diligent, caring for her beautifully. I feel so lucky to have engaged Joanie to stay with my dog and take care of things in my house while I traveled abroad. We became instantaneous friends and I felt very secure knowing that she was in charge. I had an unexpected house guest while she was here...a cousin who needed to stay overnight a few times while her husband was in the hospital in Los Angeles. Joanie was hospitable and understanding. I would not hesitate to have her come again if I would need this help again. We were in touch ...
