With a track record of over 52 successful sits for 39 families through this website, and another dozen+ such sits for other families, and their beloved pets, I bring a wealth of experience and a deep love for animals, the places, and often the people involved to each assignment.

My journey has allowed me to connect with many wonderful homes and pets, and the people who love them, leaving a trail of happy clients (many who are now mutual friends) and their furry, feathered and other favored animals and plants. I feel very fortunate to have cared for so many over this time.

Currently, I am exploring opportunities to prepare for my next chapter in life, exploring residency in the lovely country of Uruguay, in my own place long term again, I'm seeking one or two more house sits in the US for 2 to 4 months starting in March or April, 2024. This period will support my plans for completing my transition from near full-time house sitting to settling down again in one place, while still offering my full commitment to caring for your home and pets as one of my final long term sits. Not to say if it worked well, it couldn't be an annual recurring situation, as I will want to return to my homeland, our beautiful USA, for shopping, seeing friends and family, and just appreciating how wonderful our country is too.

While I'm gearing towards a more selective approach to house sitting, focusing on occasional sits in special locations or for revisits to the US, I remain dedicated to providing exceptional care. My approach is based on a fair trade philosophy, with openness to tips or payment for additional services as needed.

When you pick me, and if I agree, your home and pets will be in caring and experienced hands, ensuring peace of mind during your absence. My record speaks for itself.

I'm always looking for win-win-win solutions, so everyone involved feels comfortable and confident in the process and outcomes. Part of the process is to meet and share perspectives, then if all goes well, we work out all details on paper with a finalized House Sitting Agreement, based upon the templates developed on this website, and with many years of experience. That step is a bit of work, but always ensures a good understanding and outcome, so it's worth the effort.

I want you to feel comfortable with whomever you pick as a sitter, whether or not it turns out to be me. Let me know what you need, your biggest concerns, and let's explore together if it's a mutual good match. As you can imagine, with much experience, I'm as selective as you are, preferring situations where the communication feels clear, natural, and agreeable for all.

Sitting is truly an intimate experience, trusting a stranger in your home to care for you sacred spaces, your favorite plant and animal friends. Likewise for me, I am trusting people I don't know, and stepping into the unknown each time. ## Present and Attentive Care

Because I work remotely, I am generally home for much of the day. This is especially helpful for animals who enjoy companionship, senior pets who need closer observation, and homeowners who feel more comfortable knowing that their property is regularly occupied and monitored.

I enjoy developing genuine relationships with the animals in my care. Some of my most rewarding sits have involved shy cats and dogs who learned to trust me, elderly animals needing patience and reassurance, and pets requiring medication or carefully maintained routines.

My experience includes caring for:

I follow written instructions carefully while also paying attention to changes in behavior, appetite, animal and plant health, household systems, and the property itself. Homeowners have appreciated that I communicate promptly, send photographs and updates, and take practical action when an issue needs attention.

## Respect for Your Home

I understand that house sitting involves much more than feeding animals. You are trusting someone with your private home, belongings, routines, and the animals you love. I respect your privacy and treat your home as I would want someone to treat my own.

I work to leave each home clean, orderly, and ready for the owners’ return. My reviews frequently mention happy pets and exceptionally clean homes. During many sits, I have also identified maintenance concerns, addressed minor and a few major household (like street maintenance cuts to water lines) problems, coordinated services for sollutions, managed mail when requested, and helped homeowners respond to unexpected situations while they were away.

My professional background in technical writing, environmental health, research, and AI technology has trained me to be observant, organized, thorough, and comfortable following detailed procedures. I am also experienced at documenting important information clearly through messages, photographs, video, and forwarded correspondence when homeowners need to make decisions from a distance.

## Why I Continue House Sitting

For several years, I considered eventually relocating outside the United States. I have now decided to remain in the country, both to continue developing my technical-writing and AI-consulting work and to stay closer to my father and family as he enters his eighties.

I am not ready to retire from house sitting. Longer-term sits remain an important and rewarding part of my life while I work remotely, strengthen my independent consulting practice, and continue saving toward a retirement home of my own.

Caring for more than 50 families and completing over 70 sits has taught me a great deal about what makes a home comfortable, functional, peaceful, and welcoming. I learn from the thoughtful design, creativity, and practical efficiencies I encounter in the homes I care for. I also learn something from every animal whose trust and affection I am fortunate enough to earn.

These experiences will eventually help inform the home I build or buy. Until then, I remain grateful for the opportunity to care for distinctive homes, meet thoughtful people, discover new communities, and become a trusted companion to the animals left in my care.

## Longer-Term Sits

I am particularly well suited to longer assignments. Longer stays allow pets to settle into a dependable routine with me, give homeowners continuity rather than a changing series of caregivers, and allow me to be in one place, and focus steadily on my regular exercise and remote consulting work without frequent travel interruptions. They also give me an opportunity to connect to community.

I value arrangements in which expectations are clear, communication is comfortable, and everyone involved feels confident that the match is right. Before confirming a sit, I speak with homeowners by telephone or video so we can learn about one another and discuss the animals, their needs, household routines, schedules, transportation, and other practical matters.

Once we agree to move forward, I document the principal arrangements in a straightforward house-sitting agreement. This helps ensure that important responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood.

## Transportation

I generally fly to long-distance assignments. For most sits, homeowners have permitted me to use a vehicle for groceries, local errands, veterinary needs, and occasional nearby recreation.

I have an excellent driving history and am happy to provide my driver’s-license information and driving record so homeowners can confirm coverage with their insurer. I use homeowners’ vehicles conservatively, keep them clean, follow all mutually agreed limitations, and never permit another person to drive them.

Transportation arrangements vary by location. In dense cities, public transit, ride share services, and walking may be practical...but are they safe for me?

In less accessible areas, access to a local vehicle can be especially helpful for groceries and veterinary emergencies. I am always comfortable discussing the arrangement that works best for the homeowner, the insurer, and the location.

## Communication and Peace of Mind

On the frequency people prefer, I provide regular messages, photographs, and short videos showing that pets are comfortable and enjoying their normal routines. The frequency is adjusted to each homeowner’s preference. Some people enjoy daily updates, while others prefer occasional reassurance unless something needs their attention.

Whatever schedule we choose, I believe in honest and timely communication. If a pet’s behavior changes, something in the home needs attention, or an unexpected situation arises, I will report it promptly. In an emergency, I will contact you as quickly as possible, follow your instructions, and work with your established veterinarian or other designated professionals.

My goal is for you to travel knowing that your animals, plants, and home are receiving affectionate and consistent care, your property is being treated respectfully, and an experienced person is present to recognize and address problems.

## Finding the Right Match

Every home, animal, and assignment is different. I am selective about accepting sits because the best outcomes begin with a genuine mutual fit.

Please tell me about your animals, their personalities and routines, your home, and the matters that are most important to you. I will be equally candid about my experience and whether I believe I can meet your needs well.

My responsibilities have included feeding, administering oral and topical medications, giving injections when properly instructed, observing changes in health or behavior, coordinating veterinary care, and communicating with homeowners throughout the process. When an urgent decision is required and an owner cannot immediately be reached, I follow the agreed emergency plan and use my best judgment in consultation with the animal’s veterinarian, and I ask my own veterinarian friends for suggestions as well.

Whether or not we ultimately confirm a sit together, I want you to feel comfortable and confident in the person you select.

I's such a comfort to return home after a trip to happy kitties and a sparkling clean home and car. We'd love to have Evan house sit for us again. We've had many house sitters over the years, and I can say with confidence: You can't go wrong in choosing Evan. Evan was a great sitter during a very difficult time for us. We had scheduled our two week vacation and confirmed a sit with Evan and then discovered that one of our cats had a brain tumor and his prognosis was grim. There was a possibility that he would live beyond our trip or that he wouldn’t make it beyond our departure. We advised Evan of all this and he was kind and accepting that he might have to deal with these circumstances. In the end, we left Evan with only one of our two cats and ... Evan was an excellent caregiver for my two cars. Unfortunately he came at a time that the springtime pollen was very heavy in North Carolina. But in spite of his allergies he managed to take excellent care of my 2 cats. I would definitely recommend Evan to anyone who needs pet care.
Evan took wonderful care of our house and kitty while we were away for five weeks. He communicated with us and sent photos to assure us that everything was under control. Because our kitty is painfully shy, I didn't think she'd warm up to a stranger for at 10 days to two weeks, but Evan must be a cat whisperer because our kitty loved him within just a few days! We came home to an immaculate home, perhaps even cleaner than when we left. And he went the extra mile to ensure that the house was ... Evan was responsible and communicated with us almost daily. He sent photos and updates on our dog which made us happy. He seemed to really care about our sweet girl and he even bought her a heated dog bed pad to help with her arthritis. She clearly likes it and we had never thought to get one. Evan took good care of our house as well. We would welcome Evan back any time and would definitely recommend him as a pet/house sitter.
Evan was so incredibly helpful, reliable and attentive. He took great care of my kitties and checked in regularly. He went above and beyond helping with tasks in my home and making sure everything was taken care of. We were fortunate to find Evan available again for a shorter house and pet sit. He is so awesome and you can really tell he enjoys all animals. Our cat Lacy already misses him scratching at the guest room door in the morning. As before, he left the house clean and neat even leaving the linens washed as well as the kitchen and bathroom sparkling clean. He had use of our car but he barely used it and it was also left clean. Evan was a perfect fit for our home and pets. We were reluctantly away for 6 weeks however he helped make our extended vacation relaxing and worry free. Evan kept us updated almost daily with photos and videos of our pets playing and cuddling. Upon our return our home was just as we left, maybe cleaner. Nothing was out of place and our many plants were thriving. Our two cats were happy, relaxed and spoiled as we even noticed some new toys. Evan had use of our newer car, We noticed he drove ... Evan sat for our house and 2 cats for a week and half. He was communicative, flexible, self-sufficient and best of all, really wonderful with our cats. This was our first house sitting experience and he helped answer quite a few questions and adjusted for our needs. He sent updates, communicated on our schedule, and left the house in good working order. 10/10 experience!

Evan was so sweet to our guinea pig. He was attentive and great about sending updates. Evan is a pleasure to have as a housesitter. He’s also a pro and helpful for getting organized for the housesit.
Evan was an awesome house sitter!!! Communication was easy from the get go and I so enjoyed his updates on my critters. He quickly befriended my shy female cat and spoiled both the cats in the best possible way (lots of pets and cuddles). My chickens still miss Evan and his salad castoffs. They still regularly come to the back door looking for him and complaining about the change in diet! Evan was an exceptional sitter. He definitely improved the quality of life for our 15 year old cat. She can no longer jump due to hip problems. To solve this problem , he bought stairs that enabled her to return to previously unattinable places, like the bed and scratching post. He also bought a pet heater for her to lie on to relieve pain and keep her warm. The house was in excellent shape. He had the use of the car and drove very few miles and replaced the car battery for us. He ... MoreEvan was an exceptional sitter. He definitely improved the quality of life for our 15 year old cat. All our needs were conscientiously and completely met. Involved were two cats, one with daily medication, some plants and an outside bird feeder. A special, dietary food for one cat unexpectedly ran out and Evan initiated replacement with our veterinarian. He really watched what was going on and is quite resourceful. ... Evan, without a doubt, is one of the best sitters we have ever had. He is conscious, considerate and an excellent communicator. I never have a moment's worry when Evan is house sitting. He goes above expectations. We have asked him to continue to sit for us, the next time will be for four months. Evan looked after our animals, which included a dog and 10 chickens, for 7 weeks. Our senior dog became unwell while he was here; he noticed the change in her behavior right away and acted quickly to take her to the vet. She made a full recovery. Evan is a careful and communicative caregiver and I am happy to recommend him.
Evan sat for us while we spent a month in Africa. From the start, he was clear and prompt with communication. While gone, he kept us up to date on anything we needed to know and sent pictures of our cats frequently. One of them became ill with a cough. Evan was proactive in seeking care for him. We left Evan with one of our cars to use. It and the house were in excellent condition when we returned home. Overall, he did a great job and we would definitely use Evan again in the future.

While we were away there were several winter storms with plenty of snow too. Evan handled all of that, and kept the pets and home safe and as normal as possible. While in Mexico we got several updates from Evan via text and phone calls, and we always felt comfortable that all was well back at home. If there were problems I'm sure Evan figured out the answer, or called if he needed guidance from us. We arrived home at 2 am in the morning and were greeted by our sleepy dogs the exact same way as if we had just come in from a late night out with friends. They were happy, and showed no signs of emotional distress after our long absence. This is just the result we wanted. We had used a very nice kennel in the past and you could see the dogs needed some time to readjust when they returned home. Nothing dramatic, but this was different. The pets had been in their own home and Evan must have maintained their routines in such a way that they were just completely normal upon our return. On of our cats is elderly (18 years) and on medication 2 times a day. He was just fine upon our return, and just normal Sherlock. We did not feel Sherlock would have done well at all in a kennel which was the main reason we looked for a house/pet sitter in the first place. It was also nice to return to a home that was clean, orderly, warm, and cozy - again just as normal. Evan did a great job for us on this sit, and we would certainly use him again someday in the future. I believe communications are really key to having a "sit" start well, and end well. When away you still wonder about things back home and when you know all is good at home you can enjoy your time away even more. Evan's strong communication skills and problem solving attitude are key attributes that make him an excellent choice for your sit. A 5 star performance for us.

Evan housesat for my husband and me when we were in Norway for three weeks recently. While we were gone he took very good care of our toy fox terrier and our house. Not only that, he also drove us to the airport when we left and picked us back up when we returned home. And he vacuumed and cleaned the house before our arrival.
