Do the math
Whether you're sitting for free, or getting paid, house sitting can be a wonderful way to save, or make, good money.

Our homestead is located deep in the forests about an hour outside of Eugene, Oregon. In this remote area, a neighbor can not be seen from the property (and rarely even heard). It is about 20 minutes to the nearest town (Drain) and 30 minutes to the nearest town of 10,000+ (Cottage Grove).
This is an ideal place for a sitter that is looking for a month of remote living way out in nature (but with all the modern amenities and comforts of a house!) We are looking for someone to stay approximately mid-November to mid-December, and we are a bit flexible on the dates.
The 3 bedroom home is newer built and sits on 20 acres of land, about half of which is private woodland and half of which is cleared for farm and garden use. There are some hiking/mountain biking trails nearby, and it is about 1.5 hours to the Oregon coast or to the Cascades mountains (and their lovely hot springs) from our home.
The primary pet-care duties of a farm sitter would be to love on our dog and cat, both a few years old and very well behaved, as well as the three rabbits. These animals need the most "daily" care (ie feeding, petting, playing, ensuring water bowls are full). Otherwise, the farm-sitter's duties would largely be observatory... To live in the home and make sure everything keeps running smoothly and contact us if anything goes awry! We do have a herd of sheep and alpaca who need to always have water in their trough and hay in their feeder (but this is not a daily chore). There is also a flock of chickens that needs the same (ensure a constant supply of food/water, but not daily care). There should be no need to maintain any garden/orchard spaces, or do any major animal care, during your stay.
We have a farm-manager who lives nearby and would be very available to help and consult through any issues that may arise. We also operate a yurt-based AirBNB on the property that is fairly slow in November/December, but one guest a week should be anticipated. The duties of Airbnb maintenance would most likely be left to our farm-manager, but we are open to discussing this arrangement with potential farm sitters!
