Thanks to my mother's independent spirit, I started out my young life playing in rabbit cages and dishwasher cartons full of baby chicks. The affection for animals grew in scope and our suburban backyard expanded to include goats, a pet skunk, an orphaned raccoon and numerous stray cats that wandered in. Our home was never without a big dog - Newfie, Sheperd, Pyrenees, Rottweiler, and Greater Swiss. I am comfortable with all breeds but the bigger, the better. However, we enthusiastically embrace all breeds, sizes and temperaments when it comes to canines.
At age ten, my lifetime bond with horses took hold when I was given my first pony. I later bought, broke and trained an Arab, an Appaloosa and volunteered to exercise retired racehorses.. I recently leased a quarter horse just to recapture the magic of being in the barn.
Turns out, being a mother to multiples (triplets plus one) and a unit counselor to 100+ incarcerated men isn't all that different. Success in both roles relied on having empathy, patience,. excellent time management, quick thinking, sound problem-solving skills, a sense of humor and NO FEAR! :-) These are the strengths I will bring into your home.
My husband and I now have the freedom to be footloose and venture out to other regions of the country.. We sold our home with this purpose in mind. We have chosen this fluid lifestyle for the foreseeable future which allows us to shrug off conventional limitations, experience adventure and provide an invaluable service to others. Sounds like a win/win/win, right? We prefer longer-term housesitting jobs since it allows us time to form bonds with the pets we care for and a chance to immerse ourselves more fully in the locale where we have landed We function as a coordinated team, follow directions well and don't shy away from physical work. Also we have 30+ years of homeownership under our belts- in an older New England Cape with all its needs and nuances.
Lastly, since being in a new home (yours) is an adventure in itself, we are not drawn to wander out far and prefer to explore the local neighborhood trails and natural wonders. We do not dabble in drama, parties, smoking, political friction. or loud living. And choose to invest our time in creative pursuits like playing piano, penning poetry and drawing portraits. Ah! the sweet pleasures of simple living. :-)
