58, College Professor - Program Manager
Hello, I am Shawn. I am a full-time college professor on sabbatical, working full-time online as a project manager/consultant. I have been a digital nomad on and off for almost a decade.
I fell in love with pet sitting when a family member asked me to stay and take care of their pets for several weeks. Those weeks spent loving on and caring for her pets (dogs, cats, and fish) also really brought home how desperately I missed having furry and feathered friends in my life on a day-to-day basis.
Like most animal sitters, I love animals. In addition to the traditional pets (dogs, cats, fish), I also had birds and small parrots most of my life and have also taken care of chickens, bunnies, turtles, and lizards while housesitting and have really enjoyed them too.
I am a neat, nerdy girl who does not smoke/use tobacco products and who likes to read, cook, walk, explore new places, and take pictures.
Since I work online, I am there during the day to interact with your pet, accept packages, etc. I really love having an animal on my lap, shoulder, or nearby while I am on the computer. I also find taking breaks during the day to walk, cuddle, or play with an animal friend makes me happier and more productive. It also really adds to their lives too.
Note: Since I work online, your home must have a spot for me to work and a reliable high-speed internet connection.
As a college professor and regular volunteer, I have been fingerprinted and have had background checks.
Photos - I am also the eldest child of a career photographer and grew up in the family business. While my real passion is nature photography and documenting what is special about an area, I am also pretty good at taking portraits. I will gladly take pictures of you, your family, and your pets as a little thank-you for choosing me. Just mention you would like some pictures when you show me around your home and walk me through your pet's needs and routines. Think of the best spot for pictures in your home or yard beforehand. Daylight works best, but at night, we can turn on extra lights to help things out. I can take photos with your camera/cell phone or with my own.
My Career - I earned my doctorate (in international business, specializing in developing and emerging market countries) and became a college professor later in life. Before that, I was a project and program manager doing technical and strategic projects. I spent seven years as a full-time faculty member and the chair of a project management degree program at the University. So, I am vetted, reliable, and responsible.
Experienced Traveler - Before becoming a nomad, I would take a month or two off most years to explore a new area.
Over the years, I have made it onto all seven continents and spent three to six weeks exploring about 50 countries. My favorite thing to do in each new area is to take off by myself and walk the area, especially in areas with many street food options. I have a special love for developing and emerging market countries and have been everywhere, from Zimbabwe to Antarctica.
So, I am hardy and used to moving, being in new places, and taking care of things on my own. I have also owned several homes. I can take care of your home and pet needs.
Video conference - Thank you for reading my profile and considering me to watch after your home and your babies. I will take care of them like they are my own and will cherish doing so.
If you want me to watch after your home and pets, let's talk live to see if we are a match. I have a Zoom video conferencing account and all you need for a video chat is an internet connection and the link I send you. I will also be happy to talk via Skype, WhatsApp, or Facebook Messenger.
